What is a Demi Bra?

What is a Demi Bra?

One of the most common types of bras, a “demi” is distinguished by its less-is-more approach to coverage and style. In fact, the word demi, which means half, refers to the cups which are low cut and designed to only partially cover the breast. Demi bras come in various styles, from balconettes to push-ups, and generally go rather light on the padding to support rather than exaggerate your natural shape.

Most Common Types of Demi Bras

Demi Balconette Bra

A demi balconette bra’s cups are designed to lift from below while minimizing gaps or wrinkles at the top — an ideal choice for women whose busts tend to be fuller toward the bottom. They come in a variety of styles, from softly padded to unlined, underwired or wire-free, so there’s a wide range of demi balconettes to choose from.

Demi Push-Up Bra

A demi push-up bra is the way to go for a flattering boost come date night — or girl’s night — paired with low-cut tops. Not only will the padding enhance cleavage, but the half-cups will remain concealed and out of sight beneath deeply scooped necklines.

Unlined Demi Bra

Constructed without an inner backing or cushioned pads, an unlined demi is the perfect bra for wearing under breezy tops and dresses. These supportive bras are remarkably lightweight and shaped to follow the curve of the breasts, with or without underwires, resulting in a natural-looking, softly rounded silhouette.

Demi Bralette

For the bra minimalist seeking a simpler profile with just enough coverage, there’s the demi bralette. This comfortable, less structured pullover style wears with ease, conforming snugly against the bust to support its natural shape.

Demi Bra vs Full Coverage?

The main difference between demi and full-cup bras is that demis are more adaptable to clothing. What they may lack in coverage and internal structure, they more than make up for in their ability to slip completely undetected beneath all sorts of tops. Fuller bras are certainly comfortable everyday options, especially worn with t-shirts, but they may not be right for occasion dressing or tricky necklines. We don’t believe in one size fits all, but we do believe that one style can flatter all; demi bras are one of them!
