What We Learned from Our #thefutureisfemale Scholarship Finalists

True&Co. launched “The Future is Female” scholarship contest earlier this year. After some stellar candidates and much deliberation, we were beyond excited to announce and celebrate our fabulous finalists. Narrowing down the incredible submissions we received was unbelievably difficult, but we couldn’t be more honored to have been a part of these amazing trailblazers’ journeys. We wanted to share a few highlights from the submissions from our finalists with you, so we’ve rounded up some of our quotes. Enjoy and get ready to be totally inspired!

A Rising Tide Lifts Us All “I am most inspired by women who lift up other women. We live in a world where women are often told that other women are competition, rivals, someone to defeat. In reality, a rising tide lifts all, which is why I feel most inspired when I witness women lifting up other women.”  - Applicant 1 “I want to be the Susan B. Anthony of my generation. I want to fight for justice for people of color, people with disability, women, LGBTQ folks, immigrants, those who suffer from mental disorders, and animals.” - Applicant 2 “We’re all on this planet together. What is the point of putting each other down? Kindness can go a long way. This is what inspires me; humans lifting other humans up.” - Applicant 5

When Dreams and Expectations Are Expanded, So Are Realities “My most important female role model is Jane Austen. Jane accomplished something that no one expected her to accomplish, and for this reason, she is my role model.” - Applicant 3 “I want to make the world a better place for women. I want to inspire girls to know they can do anything, without limits. Then I want women to get to the workplace and be able to do anything, without barriers!” - Applicant 4 “I want to be an example for young people that live in a public residential with drugs and guns, we are not defined by where we come from, we are defined by the amount of strive that is within us.” - Applicant 6

Challenging the Status Quo is How the Future is Made “I would like to create a new type of hospital. A treatment facility that includes a multifaceted and creative approach to therapy and medicine. It would not only include art therapy but music, dance, drama, and poetry. It would have a wing for physical alternative and holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and nutrition.” - Applicant 8 “I want to be able to help the world to become a better place by advocating for feminism, human rights and animal rights, as well as donating to charities, volunteering, and doing my part to my fellow humans.” - Applicant 7

Inspiration Starts from Within and Ripples Out “Growing up with a physical disability, I have had a lot of body image struggles. I want to empower women and young girls to be themselves and love their body. Especially those with disabilities. Because the pressure from the media they are surrounded with scares me and I want to change it.” - Applicant 9 “I want to learn how I can be the best teacher to some of the most impoverished areas in my nation. Every child should have a fair advantage, and I would like to help close the gap between the differences in education. It’s what our future deserves.” - Applicant 10   We hope these young women inspire you to follow your dreams and know that anything is possible. It all starts from within!
