Body Positivity:A Self-Ritual for Loving You

In your day-to-day life, you’re probably flexing your Wonder Woman muscles while climbing the ladder in your career, nurturing relationships and friendships, tracking your finances, and hustling to reach your goals. But don’t forget to show yourself love, too.  

The practice of self-love can take on many forms, and body positivity in particular is the perfect way to affirm feelings of confidence and self-worth.      

Pick 5 features that you love: When we look at ourselves—naked, in our underwear, in a favorite bra, or even fully clothed—we can be too quick to notice what we believe are “flaws.” But if you wouldn’t dare repeat the less than kind things that you say about your body to your best female friend, then challenge yourself not to say them at all. Challenge yourself to identify five things that you love the most about your body: your dimples; your strong arms; your curvy hips; your long legs; your soft belly. Focusing on the positive will drown out the noise of the negative, and with enough body positive practice, the next time you look in the mirror you’ll only notice the things that you love, that make you feel beautiful. It’s so important to wear lingerie that makes you feel comfortable and empowered, we are a company full of different shapes, sizes and body issues we are always talking about what we love about ourselves and which underwear makes us feel good in our skin. Whether we are getting cozy in Alice, supported in Made of Stars or dressed up in a bodysuit they are all built to make us feel good, and to help us see the features we love about ourselves.      

Praise yourself for what makes you unique: Model and body activist Ashley Graham began her TED talk by looking in the mirror and proclaiming, “You are bold, you are brilliant, and you are beautiful. There is no other woman like you.” Practicing a positive mantra first thing in morning or when you’re feeling a bout of self-doubt is a great way to feel inspired to love and accept yourself. Even if you don’t have a full-length mirror on hand, investing in speaking to yourself in loving language is a foolproof path to a healthier body image.      

Find 5 reasons to appreciate your body: While it’s important to embrace the way your unique body looks, don’t forget to continue to speak to your body in a loving way by acknowledging all the amazing things your body does for you. Are you proud of the tummy that nurtured your children? Do you love that your thick thighs give you the strength to outrun the competition? Pick out at least five things that your body does for you or helps you do. Remind yourself that the perfect body type is an illusion, but your body gives you the strength to be true to yourself and celebrate your unique shape.
